Dating from 1548, this multi-roomed Dales free house has stone-flagged floors, oak beams and gas lighting. The main bar features an original Yorkshire range, usually lit, whilst the cosy tap room has 'Ring the Bull' and an open fire. A snug behind the bar leads to the cruck-barn added in 2006 using traditional techniques with its minstrels' gallery and large open fireplace, This is available to hire for functions such as wedding receptions and the like. Photos and information describe the construction of the barn. The guest beers (one in winter and three in summer) usually come from Yorkshire breweries. A further pump switches between Theakston Best Bitter and Old Speckled Hen. The Old Peculier is served from wooden casks, which the owner takes to Masham every fortnight for filling. Occasional music and other events take place in the Cruck Barn - check out the ferret racing in February and the Craven Arms beer festival in mid-October. Accommodation is in 3 Shepherd's huts behind the pub. The bus (Monday, Wednesday and Friday day-time only, very limited service) stops outside.
