Home to the Old Sawley Brewery, there is normally one of the brewery's own beers on the bar alongside up to five guest ales dispensed by handpump. The pub is a regular entry in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide.

Located close to the River Trent and Sawley Marina, the pub dates back to the 18th century. It is a two-roomed premises served from a central bar, with both rooms warmed by real fires in the colder months. There is usually background music.

Outside is a large, attractive beer garden; occasional outdoor live music events are held there during the summer. The wood-fired pizza oven housed in the beer garden is in operation most Fridays and weekends from May to October.
