Charming and ancient pub near the Parish Church dating back to at least 1632. Two bars serve a variety of rooms and alcoves. Features to note include stone flagged floors, viewing panel for the wattle and daub walls and a large Sessions Room, once a local Court House. Lees Seasonal beers sometimes sold. A covered and heated smoking sheltered to the rear of the pub. No food served on Sundays but check ahead for other food serving hours.

Historic Interest
Claimed to be the oldest pub in middleton.
Early 17th century half timbered building - datestone of 1632 in cellar and 1589 on fireplace - with 18th, 19th and 20th century alterations and additions. An extensive restoration in 1988/89 by Lees Brewery cost ÂŁ500,000. There is now 8 rooms but in terms of old fittings there is one fielded panelled bar counter and dado panelling that could date from the 1930s. On the right the Sessions Room, which was used as a court at one time, is genuinely old and well worth a visit. It is like a Medieval banqueting room with a high ceiling, genuine old panelled walls and an enormous old stone fireplace. Not suitable for inclusion as there are very few old pub / bar fittings. (MS 2012)
