The interior of this Grade ll-listed building of 1769, originally known as the Hare & Hounds, was much altered in the seventies and for a while was the home of an O'Neils Irish theme pub. It then reverted for a time to Lewins, after the the family who ran it for sixty years. Women were banned from this traditional pub until 1969, apparently because of the beer shortage during the Great War. The large main bar, with its carpeted, flagstone and timber floors, together with equally mixed furnishings and décor, has a splendid 15th century fireplace, which came from an old hall in Bradford, now demolished. The two smaller bars are more simply furnished.
