The pub claims to have origins as far back as 1190 and is reputed to be the 2nd oldest inn to be granted a licence. The oldest part of the existing building retains a thatched roof and probably dates from the early 17th century. With extensions and alterations over the centuries there are three distinct areas, a bar area, dining room and snug. The pub is small and crowded so access for wheelchairs or pushchairs may be difficult. Brunch is served 9am to noon Sat & Sun. CLOSED Mon & Tue during January & February 2024 because of heating/energy costs.

Historic Interest

The building dates from the first two decades of the 17th century but is much altered. Mrs Louisa Foster was a brewer until about 1902 when she was succeded by Lewis Foster, who is last referred to as a brewer at the Hollybush public house in 1910.
