Traditional town pub near the centre of Neston. No Real Ale.

Historic Interest

This pub was originally three houses, later a house with shop and two inns. The Black Bull (No.1), also known as the Bull's Head, dates from 1722 (and is listed in Pigot's Directory 1822-1823 and 1828-29 and Bagshaw's Directory of 1850) while the Greenland Fishery (No.2) dates back to at least 1822 (also listed in Pigot's Directory of 1822-23 and 1828-29 and Bagshaw's Directory of 1850) as a pub. Both pubs are mentioned in Sulley’s 1889 ‘The Hundred of Wirral’ as one of the 11 fully licensed pubs in Neston. The two pubs were combined in 1892 by the Chester Northgate Brewery to form one pub, the Greenland Fishery. At that time the building was re-fronted and re-modelled. The shop next door (No 3) was acquired and merged into the pub in 1990. Grade 2 listed. Described in 1980 as a pleasant village pub with lively atmosphere selling Greenall Whitley Mild and Bitter and in 1990 as a busy three roomed town centre local.
