Popular, 17th century pub clinging to the side of the Slad valley with superb views. Achieved fame through the late 'Cider with Rosie' author Laurie Lee, who was a regular and instrumental in saving the pub from closure.

The pub has been thoughtfully restored, including the addition of built-in dark wooden settles in the end rooms. Outside at the front there is a long fixed table with seating which serves as a smoking area - protected by a canvas awning in wet weather - together with a raised decked patio area down steps to one side and toilets in separate building down steps on the other.

Recent addition of sympathetically designed and constructed two story extension to create a restaurant and new cellar/larger kitchen. Notable painting of the Slad Valley is on the ceiling.

Bar food is available every day and has includes items of interest such as Cheese Board, Saucisson & cornichons, Olives, Soup or sardines with Sourdough & bread and butter.

Dogs and walkers welcome.
