Rose & Crown, Godalming

The Rose and Crown is reputed to be one of the oldest and smallest pubs in Godalming. The original building dates from Tudor times and was originally called Hall House. Over the centuries later additions include a Bakers and Butchers. The Pub has been extended over the centuries to incorporate both the Bakers shop and Butchers, although delightful original features of both still exist. The original Bakers shop window still exists; this is a unique canted bay window to the right of the main Pub entrance in Mill Lane. There are two original brick built Bakers ovens C1700 in the cellar and these are of great historical interest and totally unique to the area. The Butchers shop no longer exists except for the original iron work for hanging and moving the meat carcasses and these can still be clearly seen to the rear of the pub.
