Since the beginning of 2019 the hotel began sourcing its beer range only from local breweries.

Originally built in the 17th century, the Kings Arms & Royal Hotel is a grand historic building. The pub and restaurant, on the ground floor, are open to all, residents and non-residents alike. The bar is a splendid arrangement of brass and stained glass lighting with old sherry vessels on the top shelf at the back. There is a 1920s themed restaurant and plenty of different styles of seating dotted throughout the spacious lounge areas. The wonderful stained glass is seen at it's best in the grand ceiling light as you approach the bar. The walls are decorated with many photographs of old Godalming and you should look out for the carousel horses! They have 20 boutique bedrooms, all lavishly decorated in their own individual style. From some there are views of the river Wey. There are function rooms available for booking for business meetings or social occasions.

Historic Interest

The hotel has seen a number of famous faces during its many years of trading, including Henry VIII and Peter the Great. The name of the hotel is due to Henry VIII staying there – the ‘Kings Arms and Royal’ Peter the Great inspired much of the décor and his menu still hangs in the hotel today. He is said to haunt the hotel - room three in particular, but also the bar area and the stairs to the first floor, plus several other rooms. More recently though, you might spot an ex-premiership footballer in the bar.
