  • Outstanding pub restoration

Suffolk CAMRA Pub of the Year 2015, and East Anglia Pub of the Year 2015. The current owners have focused on green issues - renewable energy, recycling, local suppliers, sustainable living & appreciating the environment. Their adjacent campsite business - since summer 2009 (part of which was formerly used as the pub garden) is now open from May to October and is now called Alde Garden (see www.aldegarden.co.uk) and offers a variety of camping options. The pub is a very cosy, traditional two-room pub, and is warmed by a wood-burner and wood-fired range. Gravity dispensed beers from local brewers are served through a taproom door. A range of Fairtrade, organic and local Adnams spirits is also available, and bar snacks are served. Hot snacks heated using the wood fired range. Some excellent non alcoholic cocktails (mocktails) are also available. Live music twice monthly on Saturdays. There is a piano and various pub games are offered including bar billiards, darts, crib and board games. Horse & trap rides available in summer.

Restoration

A characterful, cosy, two-room pub which could fool the unwary into thinking it is ancient. There is no bar counter, the beer is stillaged in a small alcove off the tap room. The public bar has a quarry tiled floor, a range cooker, bar billiards, a piano and the only game of ?Ring The Hartebeest? in the country, using a hartebeest horn from South Africa. The lounge is small with a wood-burning stove, a high-backed settle, pew seating and a large scrubbed table. The pub focuses on green issues - renewable energy, recycling, local suppliers, Fairtrade and organic produce. Real ales and snacks. Closed Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Open evenings only except Sunday lunchtime.
