Built in 1912 and originally named ‘Number 3 Factory’ or The Franklyn Davey & Co Building, the Tobacco Factory was part of the vast Imperial Tobacco estate across Bedminster, Southville and Ashton. Saved from demolition in 1993, the cafe bar as we know it opened in 2001, transformed into a thriving, vibrant venue offering good quality, locally produced vegetarian and vegan food and drink. The six handpumps usually feature several from near neighbours Bristol Beer Factory, plus other local brews and at least one real cider or perry. Alongside the large, industrial-style space of the cafe bar, the smaller, more comfy snug is to the side is available for private hire, while the Tobacco Factory Theatre is just next door. The outside yard now has a covered area for year-round use, with a separate bar open in the warmer months. The yard also hosts a local market every Sunday morning, and the very popular Factoberfest beer festival one weekend in September each year. There is ramped access from the yard to the bar and an accessible toilet is available. The venue is card-only.
