Three Tuns Inn, Chepstow

This 16th century inn sits at the end of the colourful Georgian terrace in Bridge Street, and is overlooked by the imposing battlements of Chepstow Castle. Note the old Whitbread Brewery plaque near the entrance claiming "The Best in the West" with the brewery founding date 1760. The main interior space is on two levels, uncluttered and tastefully furnished, with wooden floors and beams throughout. Hops hanging above the bar are a nice feature. The lower space has comfortable tables and chairs and some cosy window seats. Two grand looking sofas are adjacent to a wood burning stove. A small room with old exposed stonework is off the bar with access to the toilets. Outside is an attractive and recently extended beer garden, with a splendid view of the castle. A large public car park is adjacent. Ales are usually sourced from local South Welsh or West Country brewers and are generally of session strength. A glance up at the ceiling near the bar bears witness to the number of ales that have passed this way, some which no longer exist. Good selection of lunchtime food (roast lunches on Sunday). There is a Monthly Quiz night. Popular music venue with live music on Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons. In fine weather the performances are on the outdoor stage in the beer garden.
