Thread, Stockport

Thread history: opened 27/10/2023 as a weekend-only "pop-up bar". The Thread name apparently came about as the premises was a tailors shop in the dim and distant past. Project 53 history: opened 16/8/2018 as Project 53 in former retail premises. Planning Application DC/065994 | Change of use of premises from a vintage furniture shop (A1) to bar restaurant (A4). Granted 24/7/2017. Closed 21/10/2023, future uncertain. Set in former retail premises opposite the imposing Victorian market hall. It was owned by Cheshire brewer, Mobberley Brewhouse, the conversion ran the full depth of the ground floor of the building. A rustic interior was created with grey decor mixing with bare boards, and a liberal spreading of reclaimed planking to adorn walls and form the bar. High seating and an open space for vertical drinking at the front lead to the bar set to the left, it had a wall of eleven key-keg taps behind it. To balance this there were handpulls for cask prominently placed on the bar. Mostly a stand-up area in front of the bar with the wooden barrels being used as tables. To the rear were normal height tables and seating as befitting a more relaxed environment. Beyond this in a vestibule was the pizza kitchen; here light streamed in from the rear aspect to illuminate the area. Food consisted of a pizza menu provided by an independent operator, Pizza Mate, The unusual name was because both the bar and Mobberley Brewhouse lie just north of the 53rd degree line of latitude. Dogs were permitted at all times.
