A typical conversion by Wetherspoon from a previous use. Formerly a Co-op department store, it originally opened as a Lloyds No.1 but then changed to the standard Wetherspoon format. The pub comprises a single, large, open-plan room with the bar to one side. The regular real ales are sourced from large national breweries. The guest real ale choice usually focuses on local breweries but can be from further afield. The good-value food on offer is from the usual Wetherspoon menu. The pub is conveniently located next to Shipley bus interchange, giving rise to its nickname of "The Waiting Room", and close to the railway station.

Historic Interest

Sir Norman Rae is something of an unsung hero in Shipley. He made his fortune from the woollen trade and was elected the town’s MP (1918–1923). His wealth enabled him to purchase a large area of land which he presented to Shipley Council as playing fields (Northcliffe Park). He also encouraged university study by providing scholarships and established Shipley Nursing Home. On his death, in 1928, it was reported, in the Shipley Council minutes, that he was the greatest benefactor to the district since Sir Titus Salt.
