An ancient smugglers' inn overlooking the River Orwell, that has been extended to the rear to provide additional seating for diners. The patio area to the front has fine views. Refurbished and re-roofed after a fire in 2003, the pub now offers high class cuisine together with gravity dispensed beers.

Meet Up Mondays: free tea, coffee & toast 0900-1100.

Historic Interest

The 1904 Woodbridge licensing records show that the Ship's licence was issued in 1853. Whether this was when it was first licensed or when it got a full (ie not just beer) licence isn't clear, though the latter seems more probable. Severe fire in about 2002 In March 2009 three popular riverside pubs on the Orwell & Deben were bought by Suffolk brewer Adnams from national pub operator Punch Taverns. The Butt & Oyster at Pin Mill & the Ship & Levington, both a short distance outside Ipswich, & the Maybush at Waldringfield, near Woodbridge. The building probably dates back to the 14th century.
