Reopening 8th July 2021 under new management. Note that the pub is open as a café before noon.

The Ship Inn was built c. 1750 and was part of the Brimscombe Port complex. A central porch has been added and window frames have been replaced with UPVC double glazing, but the Ship Inn still has a traditional looking exterior proudly showing off its imposing Cotswold stone bones. It sits in a hollow just off the Main A419 as you leave Stroud towards Cirencester and is adjacent to the Stroudwater Navigation and opposite Brimscombe Port. It is believed that the name derives from the Trows that carried goods from Stroud to ports on the River Severn the pub sign portraying such a vessel. Inside is spacious, tasteful and open plan, though 3 distinct areas are set out. The bar is to the right with an open fire, a snug may be found to the left with a wood burning stove and a restaurant/dining area to the left beyond the snug.
