Royal, Wallingford

Reopened on the evening of Fri 5 May 2023 with the new name "The Royal" with the facilities of a hotel, restaurant and bar.

The opening and meal times are from the new website as on 12 October 2023. The real ale offering is as on the day of reopening. The four refurbished en-suite rooms are bookable from late September 2023.

South Oxfordshire Branch of CAMRA will endeavour to update the other information about this pub by the end of June 2023.

Closed on 31 October 2022 with its immediate future uncertain with the possibility that it might be converted to a Bed & Breakfast.

Planning Application P22/S4415/LDP received 5 December 2022 to change existing first floor layout so that the bed and breakfast rooms have bathrooms added to each bedroom so that visitors do not have to use a communal bathroom. There is no indication when or if the pub will reopen as at 23 December 2022 and 8 March 2023.

Facebook page post on 23 February 2023 says "If you’re wondering what we’re up to post pub, we’re beer no more!" advertising a stand up comedy night at the George Hotel, Wallingford.

A 19th-century pub, offering local ales from Amwell Springs, a great menu and a very warm welcome. During the day (Tuesday to Friday 9.30am until 4pm) it operates additionally a coffee shop with a soft play area for under-fives and light lunch menu. Alcoholic drinks served from 12noon. In the evening it has televised sports, quiz nights, events and a warm atmosphere.
