Cask Ale

Minutes off the A30 between Basingstoke and Winchester in the idyllic village of East Stratton, opposite the common, stands this friendly single bar 19th century rural pub. There are six handpumps available for serving real ales, and three are used currently with at least one Hampshire ale. There is a skittle alley across the old cobbled courtyard, both used for entertainment and events. There is a small front beer garden. Events are also held on the common, which has some seating for drinkers. Light meals, (pizzas, burgers and salads) and is only served from Wednesday to Sunday, prior booking only.

Asset of Community Value

19th century end of terraced village pub owned by local landowner, Lord Northbrook. The main bar has a modern tiled floor, the bar counter looks like it could date from the 1970s as does the fireplace but the bar back is old - 1930s or earlier but may have been imported here. A small gap leads to the the snug on the left with a 1930s Art Deco style brick fireplace. On the far left is a dining room with a small Victorian cast-iron fireplace. There is a skittle alley and gents in former stables at the rear which currently houses a small brewery. The village shop is in a building by the entrance to the car park.
