A 16th century coaching inn with a busy front bar and a small and cosy back room, said to be haunted by the ghost of a former landlord. Bought in 1759 by Richard Tawney, the forerunner of Morrell’s, this was his, and hence Morrell’s first pub. The pub is now owned by Greene King. There is a large garden to the rear. Read the story about the history of the pub, and the antics of its landlord, displayed on the wall in the back room which usually has a large fire. The King and Queen on the pub sign have changed a number of times over the years.
