Cask Ale

The villagers campaigned during the planning process to preserve the Pub's village identity, and now open again. This characterful country pub offers traditional pub food in a relaxed family friendly environment. Regular events throughout the year. The large south facing garden is the perfect place for enjoying the late evening sun. The comfortable B and B accommodation is popular with walkers and visitors to Newbury show ground.

Closes 4/1/2020 for maintenance prior to reopening with new tenants.

Reopens 16/12/2020 c/o Nathan and Gavin.

An Italian (Simonelli) coffee machine has been installed. There is a large marquee for shelter in the garden.

COMPLETELY REFURBISHED 2014 - NOTHING OF HERITAGE INTEREST REMAINS.

Brick and flint multi roomed village pub with 1930s extensions on the left and right and which retains three original rooms with 1930s fittings. On the far left the 'Locals Bar' retains a fielded panelled counter and a bar back fitting from the 1930s; the small brick fireplace looks more post war. In the lobby on the left the door has 'Jug & Bottle' on indicating this was the off sales. the rear left 'Orchid Bar' with 'Smoke Room' on the door has a curved fielded panelled counter which could date from the 1930s but is of a different design to the others so may be more modern and may have replaced a hatch? Similar panelling has covered up an old fireplace.

The 'Tavern Bar' in the middle of the pub has another 1930s fielded panelled counter and the bar back fitting at the rear of the servery is also from the 1930s but the one on the left hand side is more modern; brick fireplace could date from the 1930s. There is a small dining room brought into use - the wall cupboards indicate its original domestic use. there is a hatch in the passage at the rear right for service to the garden and veranda. Original wood stain removed from doors.
