Mainly a restaurant.

Thought to date from the mid-nineteenth century and originally a beerhouse. Now former River Cafe chef Theo Hill has launched a neighbourhood restaurant and late-night bar on the site. The outside has been decorated by Portuguese graffiti artist Vhils as a close-up of a soulful face. Inside the venue has a front pubby part and at the back features a conservatory with retractable roof. There is a second-floor party room and dining rooms on two floors. It is possible just to sit and have a drink; there are plenty of craft beers but no real ale. Note that the venue serves its beers cold in 379 ml glasses, two-thirds of a pint; this is so that it doesn’t warm up too much before you finish it!

The venue has been described as a lifestyle hangout where you go to see and be seen. Prices reflect this description.

Historic Interest

President Bill Clinton once visited the venue with his ambassador and entourage - during a power cut! Lemmy of Motorhead was also a regular at the Princess Alexandra, normally drinking Jack Daniels but sometimes downing pints; he was also a model railway enthusiast and horse lover.
