** Winter closure 2023 - Closed from Tuesday 10th January 2023 until Thursday 2nd February 2023 inclusive. Re-opening Friday 3rd February. **

The George has still retained many of the procedures introduced for Covid into December 2021, including measuring each customer's temperature.

A one-time farmstead, then vicarage, the George dates from the 1600s. Remote and unspoilt, it is a cosy, grade II listed, white-washed building with mullioned windows, thick stone walls, heavy oak beams and flagged floors, Split into two rooms, it was reputedly a favourite haunt of author JB Priestley. A candle burns on the bar which is linked to the Hubberholme Parliament, a yearly land-letting auction held in aid of the poor of the parish, which has taken place since time immemorial. There's always a dark beer available. George of the George, the four-legged member of the family will greet you upon your arrival! The pub is closed Tuesdays. It stays open later on winter Sundays if B&B guests are resident or the pub is busy. The summer hours shown start when the clocks change or at Easter, whichever is the later, and finishes in Autumn when the clocks go back. Closes for an annual holiday around the end of January - check before travelling at that time of year.

Booking for food is advisable evenings and at weekends particularly in summer. Space inside is limited, and during busy meal service times, drinkers may have to make use of the extensive covered outdoor area which was created to mitigate Covid-19 restrictions but is now a permanent feature. The pub has been recognised with gold, silver and bronze awards in the British Pie Awards.
