Red-brick pub, built in the early 1800s and Grade II listed.

The pub offers the full range of the adjacent Flower Pots Brewery's beers on gravity behind the two bars - take-away sales are available. The two-room public bar has red-tiled floor, local antique photos and a large fireplace. The timber floored lounge bar is smaller and more cosy, which has two adjoining rooms.

At the rear is a recent extension, consisting of a glass walkway leading to a Hampshire style barn. Along the walkway is a second bar that opens out to the pub's garden. On the other side of the car park is a larger grass area that has numerous benches that can be enjoyed in good weather.

Good home-cooked food is available daily except Sunday evenings, with Thai food on Wednesday evenings.

There are many good walks nearby and the Watercress Line steam railway is three miles away.

Historic Interest

Early 19th century Grade II listed. First publican was a gardener recently retired from a big house (possibly Avington), hence the name. Historic England list entry 1156212.
