Sold to Liberation Group (Butcombe) by Wadworth in Dec 2020

An inn since 1584, the Fleur is a welcoming pub, popular with locals. Its three main drinking/dining areas are served by a single bar. Old beams, stone walls and a log fire impart a cosy feeling and on the walls, old hand painted Wadworth’s pub signs can be inspected. At the rear of the pub is a much used skittle alley where a number of local teams regularly play.

Historic Interest

The village of Norton St Philip played a crucial part in the Duke of Monmouth's failed rebellion of 1685. After the final defeat at the battle of Sedgemoor, 'Hanging' Judge Jeffreys held court in the George, and twelve convicted rebels were marched through the Fleur de Lys, to a field behind the pub, to face the gallows. Local legend has it that an innocent bystander, who opened the gate for them, was himself hanged as a punishment for showing respect for the convicted men. His ghost is said to haunt the pub.
