Aug 2022 - Selection of Redemption cask ales. Assume at least two.

Comfortable large pub with various rooms with a mix of seating ranging from dining tables to settees. The entrance area has high tables and stools and a stone floor and the two areas to left and right are more eating areas. There a couple of fire places that appear original as does the water pump in front of the pub. Framed drawings of London buildings are scattered throughout. Large garden at the back in addition to a few seats at the front. Cask beer from a changing range including loclly brewed beers.

On the banks of the Low Maynard reservoir, part of the Lee Valley Reservoir Chain, this tranquil spot consists of wooded islands and marshes, and is a magnet for bird watchers. Existing for over 100 years, its location has made it popular with locals, travellers to London and even holidaymakers. in 1877, over 12,000 holidaymakers arrived at the nearby Bruce Grove Station with droves descending onto the Ferry Boat to dance in the gardens, which from time to time sported a brass band. Can get very busy at times.

Historic Interest

Grade II listing:- Inn. Early C18, with probably late C18 extensions. Stuccoed. Tiled pitched roof to eaves. Original block of 2 storeys plus dormers, 3 windows wide. Square headed entrance with projecting timber canopy; C20 door. Square-headed windows, 16 pane sashes; almost flush frames. Hipped dormers. Extension, to left, of 2 storeys, 1 window wide. Single storey bay window extensions to left and right. Interior: unmodernised.
