Historic Interest

A certain Samuel Davenport built a three-storey dwelling house known as the Elms in 1752. In 1758, Samuel had a son named George, who went on to become a notorious highwayman, until he met his just end on Red Hill Gallows in 1797. In 1806, Samuel Davenport sold The Elms to William Seddon whose family owned the house for nearly 100 years before the Elms eventually became the home of Wigston Royal British Legion Club, then in recent times the club rebranded and adopted its present name.
