The first/last pub in Northumberland along the Coastal Route this multi-roomed Grade II Listed Edwardian pub (originating to 1748) is included on CAMRA's North East Pub Interiors of Special Historic Interest. The many fine features include, mosaic floor at entrance, the etched glass panel on inner door and original fireplace in 'Select Room' which has hatch to back of bar. There is also a listed WW1 water storage tower (part of Robert's battery) behind the beer garden. Winter opening/meal times may vary.

Reopened summer 2021 after substantial refurbishment with large patio/garden extension to the rear. Meals are served all day.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: II

A large Edwardian pub that has lost its off-sales but seen few other changes. The lobby has a mosaic floor and etched glass panel on the inner door. A door leads to the servery with a hatch and an open staircase. The main bar at the back has the original curving counter, new bar back and original half panelling with new panelling in the former off-sales area. The 'Select Room' on the left has original fireplace, now blocked-up and a hatch to the back of the bar. A refurbished small room on the right retains original fixed seating and fireplace, also blocked-up.
