Country House Hotel overlooking Stokes Bay, with spectacular views of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. The building and land are owned by Gosport Borough Council, but the premises have been under new management since December 2018. There is a bar, with a large function room especially suitable for weddings and large group functions, with some smaller rooms. The premises is currently undergoing a refurbishment, and restoration of the hotel bedrooms is planned starting in October 2019.

Historic Interest

Built in 1842 for the leading Victorian politician J.W. Croker, it has played host to people such as the Duke of Wellington and Sir Robert Peel. Queen Victoria's second son, Prince Alfred stayed here whilst attending the nearby Naval College and Prince Edward was also a guest. Robert Smith-Barry AFC, a pioneer of aviation techniques during WWI, also stayed here. He developed the 'Gosport Tube', allowing the instructor to communicate with the student in twin seat aircraft. His way of teaching was adopted by many countries and he was known as the man who taught the air forces of the world how to fly.
