Originally the Hippodrome Theatre and in a later incarnation the Talk of the Town, this is now a Grade II listed 75,000 square-foot casino venue with eight bars across six floors, including a bar on the roof! Pedestrian access to the Hippodrome is from Charing Cross Road, Leicester Square and Little Newport Street. At least some of the bars serve draught beers (including Guinness) and lagers, no real ale of course. There is a steak house on the first floor if you are hungry.

Over 18s only, under-25s may have to show photo ID. Also if you wish to gamble more than £1500 you will have to show ID.

The venue is open 24 hours a day except Christmas Day but the various bars, casinos and the steak house have different opening times, see venue website. There is an open door policy, no membership needed. A discount is available if you join the venue's loyalty scheme.

Note that, as is very usual, alcohol cannot be sold before 10am Monday to Saturday or noon on Sunday.

Historic Interest

Grade II listed, Historic England entry 1066287. Designed by renowned architect Frank Matcham. In 1919 The Dixieland Jazz Band presented the nation's first ever jazz performance and in 1947 Julie Andrews made her professional stage debut here. The Talk of the Town was in this site from 1958 to 1983.
