Probably the oldest pub in the town, with a fine timber-framed facade and interesting protruding gables. A wonderful front bar was at one time two bars, but still has much charm, with a fine tiled floor, original fireplace, timbers and cosy window alcoves. To the rear is a more conventional lounge bar, a games room and a patio with a feature oak-timbered shelter. Snack food is available. Children over 13 are admitted. A quiz is held monthly on Wednesdays, and jazz on the first Fridays in summer.
One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

A characterful old coaching inn, still with three rooms, though most of the fixtures and fittings are of no great age - a thirties fireplace and some sixties bar furniture in the main bar and lounge are as old as they get.
