Dorset, West Bridgford

As the Old Colonial, this was one of only two public houses in the Borough of Rushcliffe's Compton Acres Ward. "Opened in December 1993 for Tom Cobleigh PLC." (Elain Harwood / Historic England).

Re-opened in September 2019 as the Dorset, a joint venture between Star Pubs & Bars, a Heineken operation and Distinctive Inns. The £450,000 refit aimed to create a "family-friendly village pub" with a larger drinking area, two smaller dining areas and a conservatory with a "quirky, opulent and stylish" interior (Nottingham Post 24th June 2019).

In the run upto Christmas 2016, the Old Colonial was refurbished and reopened as a mediterranean-themed restaurant and bar, rather oddly called Ego at the Dorset Arms. It is hard to find any local connection between Compton Acres and the County of Dorset or any of history's assorted Dorset-titled aristocracy. (If anyone knows please tell Nottingham CAMRA!) Ego closed in September 2018, the operators Ego Restaurants avising that "despite our best efforts, unfortunately, the business has proved unsustainable under our current operating model." Ego Restaurants is part of 3Sixty Restaurants (Nottingham Post 17th September 2018).

As at November 2017, the then Ego freehold (NT184465) was held by the Red Star Pub Company (WRIII) Limited [Reg. No. 4089947], a subsidiary of Heineken. At the same time, the leasehold (NT528843) was held by Ego Restaurants Limited [Reg. No. 3684077].
