Closest pub to the railway station avoiding traffic. A major renovation in 2019 saw the central bar moved to the rear of the pub with an increased range of cask beers. The rather tired interior has been overhauled to make a much more welcoming pub.

The Wainwright Altitude is chilled through a python at 5C.

From the outside take a look at the upstairs window on the right. Its oddly angled position is believed to be caused by the subsidence arising from the pub being built over the town's defensive ditch.

Historic Interest

The pub actually predates the station, it opened to service the 19th century coaching trade (specifically routes from Shrewsbury to northern parts of the county). The coming of the railway in 1848 attracted the attention of pub-owners from afar looking to expand, the Bulls Head being an early example. Within a few years it was owned by the now defunct Yates Brewery of Birkenhead. Since then it has changed hands a few times, starting with Butlers of Wolverhampton and ending up with Marstons (via M&B (Springfield) and Bankss). Despite the range of beers available in the Marstons portfolio, the locals here seem determined to stay loyal to their Wolverhampton brew (though regional beers from the Marston's portfolio are also being seen in here these days.
