Renowned 14th-century pub, originally a monastic farmhouse, retaining many original features and with an eclectic furnishing style that is always a surprise to newcomers. Up to four real ales are available on handpump or gravity, with local breweries well supported. There is also a selection of ciders and perries from local producers. Good pub meals are cooked from scratch using locally sourced ingredients. The large beer garden hosts festivals and live music in summer. Four holiday apartments are available. Local branch Pub of the Year 2023.

One star - A pub interior of special national historic interest

Listed status: II

A 17th. century pub which has been little-altered in over 50 years. The characterful public bar, on the right, was originally two rooms but, in the mid-1960s, a partition and a staircase to the living quarters were removed and the small bar counter was added. The quarry-tiled lounge/dining room on the left has a brick bar and a bar-back using old furniture, both added in the mid-1960s. There are two genuinely old fireplaces.
