Bull Inn, Barton Mills

A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 29 May in 1811 states that : "To be let & entered immediately, The Barton Bull...This Inn is resorted to by the first families of distinction, & ever has, & from it's situation, command the Posting Business to & from Norwich, Lynn & the greater part of Norfolk to the metropolis & is entirely free for Wines & Spirits. Any person of genteel address, & can command from fifteen to sixteen hundred pounds, will find this such a situation as is seldom to be met with...For particulars, contact Buck & Greene, BSE". A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 04 Jul in 1821 states the Auction of Bull Inn, Barton Mills; particulars from Mr Wm. GOLDING at the White Hart Inn, Newmarket. A report in the Ipswich Journal** on 01 Oct in 1856 states that an Auction of Capital Household Furniture of Mr PARS, who is leaving the Bull Inn, Barton Mills. A hostelry at this location is said to have been recorded in Domesday, though the present building only dates from the 17th century, with alterations & extensions in each subsequent century.
